WHAT FOR IF ONE LOSES ITS STYLE?

One of the odds, the loving couple transformed their interests into a business

Having the ample opportunity to visit the actual brick-and- mortar store of the Midway on February 5, 2018, students from the Community College of City University are fascinated not only on the simple designs of the store, but also how special the products are, as they found that the shop tends to give back values to their customers by selling each tiny, delicate product that holds a story behind it.

Living in a city filled with hustle and bustle, Hongkongers tends to be way too busy in making their ends meets and seemingly forgotten the importance to “live in style”. While in the contrary, this pair of couple made their way from simply a hobby in taking pictures and travelling to starting up their own business. Looking at the design of their shop, and the pictures they put in their social medias and articles, we can see that they emphasize on the point of “less is more”. They are simple, yet able to deliver the actual feelings to the readers.

Always having the fear of being rejected by their superiors, it is no surprise that Hongkongers have started to lose their one-of-a-kind character, and blindly follow every single instruction from their superiors. With this kind of situation nowadays, I believe we should set Midway as an example, as they are able not only to live in their own unique style, but also to stick with them regardless how long the time have passed. Needing to publish feature articles every single week is no easy job, not to mention that they insist not to use any photos that are not taken by their own. Till now, the Mid- way kept this tradition for six years already and has already published around one hundred and forty pieces of feature articles in two years’ time. Each feature article is filled with an array of information about the Japanese designs, cultures and stories they experienced. They even create a new colour that symbolizes their shop, allow people to think of them every time they see this colour.

It is rare to find these kinds of shops nowadays in Hong Kong, so we should treasure these kind of businesses and prevent them from closing down due to multinational companies!
